Space – I Dig It

Admittedly I am a space geek. I follow several space oriented You Tube Channels. I also have a library of books about space including from one of my favorite you tube channel hosts.

Dr. Becky, NASA, Astrum, Dr. Tamitha Skov, Everyday Astronaut,

I love programs about the universe, astrophysics, black holes…you get it. I follow the space education the University of Arizona is doing – OSIRIS-Rex anyone? So much good stuff out there. My grandson asked me if I would go up in a rocket into space and I didn’t hesitate to cry YES!! He said “but you’re too old Nannie.” I replied I wanted to go into space when I was young and haven’t changed my mind.

If NASA said we will help you get in shape and send you up to the ISS I’d jump on that. I could do some science, specifically biology from my experience in a lab growing cells. Yeppers I’m up for it.

One of the newest space science channels I’ve gotten into is Dr. Tamitha Skov https://www.youtube.com/@TamithaSkov and her fantastic information about our star – the Sun. She makes it so easily understandable what our star is doing and how it affects us, and its effects on Earth. She gives information to pilots when there might be electronic issues with GPS and she lets those folks in aurora range when there will be awesome watch days.

Another one I watch every time she has a new video is Dr. Becky Smethurst https://www.youtube.com/@DrBecky “Dr. Becky” to her viewers. She is so fun and gives so much information. Her specialty is in super massive black holes. I have two of her books and also one she recommended on LIGO which is tracking gravitational waves. (GEEKING here.) If you want the latest info on what the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is finding Dr Becky has it. To know what to look for in the night sky or the latest space news watch her videos.

NASA https://www.youtube.com/@NASA has an amazing collection of videos with news, history, current missions, as well as live programming that I will play in the background as I go about my daily activities. If there is a special landing, or a briefing you can get on there and follow it. There are mission specific videos for what you are interested in, and the awesome camera views from the space craft are thrilling to observe.

Astrum with Alex McColgan https://www.youtube.com/@astrumspace has a wonderful variety of videos about the amazing space we live in. They vary in length and are well done. He has everything from exoplanets to what satellites see from space.

Everyday Astronaut with Tim Dodd https://www.youtube.com/@EverydayAstronaut/videos is informative, and many of his videos are answers to questions like what’s it like to build rocket engine? or start launch closer to space? Also he will have features about current mission news and interviews with space specialists.

So as you can see I really like this stuff and it blends wonderfully with my other interests in meteorology and geology.

Voyager 1

Cheers!
