I’m kind of a picky television watcher. I rarely ever watch network programming. There is nothing I am remotely interested in. Hubby watches very few as well*. Evidently we aren’t typical. Who knew??
I was talking to the loyalty department at Comcast, since we have been with them since 2002, about finding a way to reduce my bill, and she asked about the programs we watch. I said, “Outside of Netflix and Hulu right?” she sighed and said yes. I had to think about it since most of the programs hubby and I watch are usually on our DVR and we watch when we are ready.
Me: SYFY, Discovery, History, National Geographic, Destination America, TCM, PBS, BBC America.
Him: Sportsman Channel, Outdoor Channel, NBC*, PBS (British mystery/drama programs), PAC12.
I think she was stumped. We didn’t fit into any package plan.
After quite a while she was able to reduce my bill by $15. Not enough but better. After talking to hubby we are still looking at cost reducing options. I really, REALLY like their internet.
So the saga continues.
I am back from ten days spent caring for my grandson, and back to good internet service. He and I had a good time, lots of chasing a little human, flying body hugs, cleaning up messes, laundry, and all the assorted things that go with caring for a toddler.
It kind of kept me on my toes. Yet I had an advantage by his attendance at daycare. It is already paid for since he is still in the foster to adopt system, at least for a few more months, so I was able to get a lot of things done for my daughter while she was off chaperoning 15 eighth graders to Washington DC and NYC. Some grocery shopping, cleaned a lot, and got all her laundry done. Ran some errands for her, as well as having fun with the little man when he was with me.
Charlie is fearless. He would run to the little kid slides and climbing things, but once he was into it all he wanted to do was get on the big kid stuff. I was blown away by his balance and strength. He wasn’t fazed by the height, (not like me) and he liked the fast slides. But…he also really like covering himself in the sand. All I could think as I watched him roll around in it was ring worm, and kitty litter! Little humans get really dirty when they play.
I did discover the internet at her place was not a good as mine. It seemed to run intermittently, sometimes being very strong, then a moment later it was off. I mean as in my laptop saying no internet service. Very frustrating when trying to blog, email, and do research online.
Thus, I never got to do a blog post.
Well I am back, and after a couple of days of being sick once I got home, I am online, cleaning up after hubby being home by himself for ten days, and getting lots of love from Millie and Jake.
I’ve been having second thoughts about Facebook and the security of my online connection. My phone is requiring I install Messenger even if I am logged in through the internet. When I looked at the permissions it requires to run it made me extremely nervous. I don’t have to have it yet on my laptop to use it.
I have a FB friend who had been off and then came back claiming she had been hacked. Earlier I had received a friend request from her that surprised me yet I accepted it, and now I have received instant messages from this person very late in the evening. It isn’t clear to me if it is her hijacked account. The messages are vague and one or two words. I was suspicious. Is this the hacker or my friend?
I hate when it feels as though technology runs my life.
Chuck and I rescued a hummingbird! It had somehow fallen into our fish pond and Chuck found it floating on the surface. Not knowing how long it had been there he picked it up thinking it was drowned, but its body twitched. We brought it inside and using a 1ml syringe we started trying to get it to drink some sugar water. It took a while but I noticed it open its beak, then its tongue flicked out several times and it started drinking. It opened one eye, then the next and started trying to move its wings. Suddenly it flew up and away, while we chased it to keep it from the ceiling fans. That was pretty funny seeing Chuck moving, hands in the air, chasing a wee hummingbird. It did get a little bonk by the fan, so we took it outside and set it in a planter. After a few more drinks it flew away to a nearby tree. Needless to say there was a lot of human high fives.
We were blessed with rain off and on yesterday that helped to cool things a bit from the 100’s to mid 90’s. The 100’s will be back with a vengeance along with the increase in my electric bill.
I don’t understand the programming of cable and satellite TV.
I wish they would let me pick my stations. I don’t watch any network stations, my main viewing is Weather Channel, Discovery, History, Science channel, Hallmark, PBS, BBC and Syfy. Throw in a couple of movie channels and food shows and I’m good.
Why can’t it be a la cart for people like me, unless you just have to have every frickin’ channel in the world because you do nothing else all day? If I had more channels I would never get anything done.
Why do internet providers charge so much if you just want internet and not a bundle of internet, phone and TV? I have DISH so I don’t need cable TV but my internet service through Xfinity costs almost as much as my satellite service-which is stupid!
There has got to be a better way to do this crap. Any suggestions out there? Cutting costs has got to be possible.
Also, anyone have a part time writing job for me? Just askin’
